Entering the world of professional video production is exciting BUT it can also feel overwhelming. With hundreds of camera models, countless accessories, and multiple ways to power your equipment, it's easy to become confused about where to begin.
At Indipro, we've spent years helping filmmakers, content creators, production companies, and broadcasters find the right power solution for their workflow. Whether you're purchasing your first cinema camera or expanding your production kit, understanding your power options is the first step toward building a reliable setup.
This guide will walk you through the four primary power solutions we offer and help you determine which one is right for your production.
Understanding Camera Power
Most cameras include a small, dedicated battery such as a Canon LP-E6, Sony NP-FZ100, Panasonic DMW-BLF19, or another manufacturer-specific battery. These batteries work well for basic shooting but typically provide limited runtime, requiring frequent battery changes throughout the day.

For professional productions, constantly swapping batteries isn't practical. That's why many filmmakers rely on larger external power systems that dramatically increase runtime while allowing multiple accessories to be powered from a single battery.
At Indipro, our professional power solutions fall into
four categories:
- Professional Batteries (V-Mount, Gold Mount & B-Mount)
- D-Tap Power Cables
- Battery Adapter Plates
- AC Power Supplies
Let's look at each one.
Professional Batteries
Professional batteries are the foundation of most cinema camera power systems. They provide significantly longer runtimes than standard camera batteries and can power cameras, monitors, wireless transmitters, lights, follow focus systems, recorders, and other production accessories.
V-Mount BatteriesV-Mount batteries are the industry's most widely used battery format and our most popular product line. They're compatible with countless professional cameras and accessories and are ideal for:
If your equipment accepts a V-Mount battery, this is often the easiest and most versatile option. |
|
|
Gold Mount BatteriesGold Mount batteries provide the same functionality as V-Mount batteries but utilize a different mounting system. Both battery types deliver excellent performance. The choice is usually determined by the equipment you're using or personal preference. From our experience, Gold Mount systems tend to be more common on productions located on the West Coast, while V-Mount remains extremely popular across much of the industry.
|
B-Mount BatteriesB-Mount is the newest professional battery standard and is designed for higher-powered cinema equipment. Unlike traditional 14.8V batteries, B-Mount batteries operate at 26V, making them ideal for:
ARRI has adopted B-Mount as the standard battery platform for many of its newest camera systems, making it an increasingly popular choice for high-end productions. |
|
Choosing the Correct Voltage
One of the most important considerations when selecting a battery is choosing the proper voltage.

Always verify your device's required operating voltage before purchasing a battery. Using the incorrect voltage can prevent your equipment from operating properly or potentially damage your equipment.
Understanding Battery Capacity (Wh)
Professional batteries are available in different capacities measured in Watt-hours (Wh). Simply put:
- Lower Wh = shorter runtime
- Higher Wh = longer runtime
Indipro offers batteries ranging from approximately 50Wh to 270Wh, allowing filmmakers to choose the right balance between runtime, weight, and portability. A larger battery means fewer battery swaps throughout the day, making it ideal for long productions.
Studio, Location & Travel Use
Professional batteries are commonly used in:
- Outdoor productions
- Documentary filming
- Weddings
- Live events
- Commercial shoots
- Productions with limited access to wall power
Most professionals carry multiple batteries to ensure continuous operation throughout the entire shooting day.
Many batteries under 160Wh can typically be transported on commercial airlines (subject to airline and regulatory requirements), making them an excellent option for traveling filmmakers.

D-Tap Power CablesNot every camera includes a built-in V-Mount, Gold Mount, or B-Mount battery connection. That's where D-Tap power cables come in. A D-Tap cable allows you to power your camera directly from the D-Tap output found on most professional batteries. Indipro manufactures an extensive selection of D-Tap power cables including:
Since our cables are manufactured in-house, we can also build custom power cables designed specifically for your application. Before selecting a D-Tap cable, always verify your camera's required voltage and power input. Once confirmed, simply connect the D-Tap end of the cable to your battery and connect the opposite end directly to your camera or device. |

If you're unsure which cable you need, our sales team is always happy to help.

Battery Adapter Plates
Battery adapter plates provide another excellent way to integrate professional batteries into your camera rig. These plates securely mount a V-Mount or Gold Mount battery directly to your setup while supplying power to your equipment.
Indipro offers adapter plates with:
- 15mm rod mounting systems
- 1/4"-20 mounting options
- Compact rig configurations

Many of our battery plates include multiple power outputs, allowing you to power:
- Your camera
- External monitor
- Wireless transmitter
- Follow focus system
- Additional accessories
...all from a single battery.
For filmmakers building lightweight handheld or shoulder rigs, battery adapter plates provide a clean and organized power solution.
AC Power SuppliesNot every production requires batteries. If you're shooting indoors or have reliable access to wall power, an AC power supply may be the better solution. Our AC power supplies are perfect for:
Instead of changing batteries throughout the day, an AC power supply delivers continuous power for uninterrupted operation. Indipro manufactures AC power supplies in multiple voltage and amperage configurations: from compact 8V/3A models to heavy-duty 15V/20A solutions, making them compatible with a wide variety of professional cameras and production equipment. Different cable lengths are also available, giving users greater flexibility while working around the studio or on set. Like many of our products, custom AC power solutions are also available. |
